Customs Duty & Tax Information to USA
As of August 29, 2025, major changes to U.S. customs policy have eliminated the "$800 duty-free" rule for many shipments, including those from Israel. Under recent executive orders, most goods imported from Israel are now subject to a 15% reciprocal tariff.Key Information for 2026:
- Minimum Amount (De Minimis): The previous $800 exemption is suspended for many shipments. Almost all imports, regardless of low value, are now subjected to duties and formal entry requirements.
- Duty Rate: A 15% tariff is commonly applied to Israeli-origin goods.
- Exceptions: Medicines, certain medical materials, and specific industrial materials may be exempt from the new tariffs.
Important Considerations:
- Calculation: The duty is typically based on the fair retail value of the items.
- Carrier Fees: Couriers (DHL, FedEx) will likely charge handling fees in addition to the customs duty.
- Accuracy: It is recommended to check the specific HTS code for your item to determine the exact rate.
Disclaimer: Customs regulations are subject to rapid changes based on ongoing trade negotiations and executive orders. It is advised to check the latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) updates before shipping.

- Duty Rates: Israel benefits from the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA), meaning many industrial products, baked goods, and some agricultural products may have reduced or zero duties. However, you must ensure the goods are correctly marked with a certificate of origin to claim this, though it is not always required for low-value goods (under $3,300).
- GST/HST: Even if an item is duty-free, you are generally required to pay 5% GST (or higher HST depending on the province) on items imported by mail over the $20 threshold.
- Calculation: Duties are calculated based on the value of the goods in Canadian funds (CIF - Cost, Insurance, and Freight method).

- $20.01 - $60 (Gift): No duty/taxes (must be labeled "Gift").
